The United Nations/African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID) urged the armed movements to commit to the ceasefire declared by Sudan government.
UNAMID Spokesperson Noureddine Al Mazini told Miraya FM that the joint ceasefire mechanism formed in Khartoum between the government and UNAMID, aims to include the armed movements in the mechanism and to convince them to accept immediate ceasefire to create conducive environment for the upcoming peace negotiations.
Meanwhile, the Joint UN/AU Special Representative for Darfur Rodolphe Adada will be heading to New York today to attend an assessment forum of the hybrid forces in Darfur.
Al Mazini said that Adada will discuss with international figures the difficulties faced by the peacekeeping forces in the region, especially equipment and helicopter shortage.
