The National Football Federation gave Hilal team an opportunity to join the Merikh team at the African Cup of Nations.

This came up after the African Football Association gave Sudan the opportunity to be represented by two teams in the championship; whereas the National Football Federation chose Hai El Arab team of port-Sudan to replace Al Hilal in the African federation championship.
