The teachers of secondary and primary schools in Malakal announced a work strike starting from today.
This is in protest of a 10% decrease in their arrears and salaries.
A number of teachers told Miraya FM that they had decided to enter this strike after the Ministry of Education rejected their request.
In another development, the Vice Chancellor of the Juba University has said that establishing and structuring examination system is a necessity and very important for development of higher education in the south.
The Under-Secretary in the GoSS Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, William Ater said that the ministry intends to implement the examination program in both primary and secondary schools.
He said the ministry is faced with the lack of land to establish an examination center.
During the opening of a workshop on the examination system in Juba, Prof. Sibrino Farajala said that this will enable the teachers to pay attention to the curriculum, set standards for measuring students' performance and encourage competition among students.
