The American Embassy in Khartoum has condemned in a press release the detention of about sixty journalists by the security organs as they protested before the Parliament against censorship yesterday.
Public Relations Officer at the American Embassy in Khartoum, John Walter, told Miraya FM that withholding information and detention of journalists will impede the peace process, democratic transformation and the upcoming elections.
He added that such moves will have a negative bearing on Sudan-US relations.
The Secretary of the Political Bureau of the National Congress Party, Mohamed Mandour Al Mahdi, told Miraya FM that the statement of the American Embassy is 'interference in Sudan's internal affairs.'
Eleven daily newspapers have announced suspending publication today in protest against detention of journalists protesting against censorship by security organs.
