About one hundred and fifty (150) women in south Sudan have turned up for fistula treatment, since the campaign against the ‘obstetric Fistula’ problem was launched over a year ago.
Speaking during a public lecture organized by the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) in Juba, Professor Oladosu Ojengbede, from college of Medicine, University of Ibadan in Nigeria, said the fistula campaign is not only to treat cases, but to train local physicians and nurses to care for patients.
The obstetric fistula is a disease caused by injury sustained during child bearing due to obstructive Labour.
The Director for reproductive health in South Sudan, Dr. Makur Koriom, said that lack of Knowledge is among the outstanding issues that lead to high cases of Fistula. He said there is no proper health education to mothers.
The lecture was jointly organized by the UNFPA, and the government of South Sudan's Ministry of Health and the Association of Inter media.
