Eastern Equatoria's Legislative Assembly speaker confirms he won't resign PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 18 September 2008
The speaker of Eastern Equatoria State Legislative Assembly has said that she will not resign from her post following demand from some of the members of the state parliament.  Addressing the media in Juba, the Speaker, Madam Sabina Dario Lokolong, said that she will "stick to the procedures and legal steps" and wait for the final decision of a committee which is due to investigate an incident that took place at the state assembly and lead to the suspension of assembly session last August.

In March this year, a motion which aimed to impeach the speaker of the Eastern Equatoria state was tabled before the parliament.

Among the nine (9) charges made against the speaker were alleged downplaying occurrences of theft in the Assembly, signing of financial documents contrary to the Assembly regulations and overstepping of mandate.
