The Chief Mediator of Uganda's peace talks, Dr. Riek Machar, has said that the Lord's Resistance Army's (LRA) current security concerns, whether related to the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) or other forces in the region, can most effectively be addressed through the final peace agreement.
Machar, who is the Vice President of the Government of Southern Sudan, said that the responsibility now rests with the LRA leader Joseph Kony to demonstrate commitment to continue with the peace process.
Machar also expressed concern over the LRA failure to attend scheduled meetings and to advance the peace process.
However he confirmed that the LRA leader has restated his commitment to the peace process.
Meanwhile, the Government of Southern Sudan (GoSS) reaffirms it's commitment to continue engaging credible community leaders and representatives, especially from Uganda, to persuade the LRA to cooperate and contribute to the peace process.
