The Minister for Presidential Affaires in the Government of Southern Sudan Dr. Luka Biong explained to Miraya FM that his statement about rescheduling the general elections was a personal opinion and did not represent the opinion of the SPLM.
He said what he intended was to draw attention to the conditions which might not be conducive for conducting elections in southern Sudan next July.
He pointed out that the SPLM is committed to the CPA and the elections.
Almost one thousand people have been displaced by heavy rains in Mapan County in the Upper Nile State.
After visiting the affected areas the State Acting Governor Duk Dob Duk stated to Miraya FM that the affected people are facing dire humanitarian conditions, and called on the government organs to speed up provision of relief aid to the area.
