Sudan Liberation Movement-Abdel Wahid Mohamed Nour faction has announced its rejection of the Arab League initiative to resolve the conflict in Darfur through a Ministerial Committee set-up during the Arab League Council meeting in Cairo yesterday.
The Spokesperson of the movement Yahia Bolad stated to Miraya FM that the movement rejects any initiative outside the United Nations framework, adding that Arab countries share direct interests with the Khartoum regime, as he put it.
Also reacting to the Arab League peace initiative, the Foreign Affairs Secretary of the Justice and Equality Movement Dr. Abdul Hamid Haroun stated to Miraya FM that the movement rejects any Arab peace initiative.
Meanwhile, Haroun pointed out that Qatar's Chairmanship of the Arab League Ministerial Committee and acceptance to host the negotiations may encourage the movement to consider the initiative.
The Arab League has set-up a Ministerial Committee to arrange for the peace talks between the Sudanese government and the armed factions in Darfur.
The Arab League also welcomed the acceptance of the Qatari State to host the peace talks.
The Ministerial Committee will be Chaired by the Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Hamad Ben Jassim bin Jaber Al-Thani, the Arab League Secretary General Amru Musa and the Chairman of the African Union Jean Ping.
