The Sudan Armed Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army are planning to demobilize three hundred and fifty thousand fighters.

This will be the largest demobilization of fighters ever implemented in Africa.

The Director of the Peace Administration and Social Security in the Northern Sudan DDR Commission, Abdul Hafiez Mohamed Ahmed, said the government is currently harmonizing the conditions of these demobilized soldiers in the framework of the program designed for the post war period.

This program includes capacity building, strengthening of reconciliations, and de-mining.

According to Al Ra’id newspaper, Abdul Hafiez considered the demobilization operation as the largest in Africa.

He also said that a similar operation took place in Ethiopia where one hundred and thirty five thousand fighters were demobilized.
