The Ministry of Health in the Government of Southern Sudan said that over 9,000 cases of acute watery diarrhea have been reported in southern Sudan this year.

The Ministry's Director General for Preventive Medicine Dr. John Rumunu told Miraya FM that from January to August this year several outbreaks of diarrhea have been registered in Juba, Magwi, Torit and Aweil.

The Minister of Health in Central Equatoria State Dr. Pius Subek has urged citizens to avoid drinking untreated water.

Speaking during the launching of Water Guard Campaign in Juba, Minister Subek said that it is very important to prevent diarrhea and other waterborne diseases.

Dr. Subek added that his Ministry is working hard to ensure that people live a healthy life and drink treated and safe water.
