Friday, 22 August 2008
South Sudan Women have petitioned the Presidency to sign the global convention which protects women against discrimination. Presenting the petition to the First Vice Presidents of the Republic, the chairperson of the South Sudan Women Empowerment Network (SSWEN), Milly Lula said Sudan has not signed the convention which 185 countries have signed.

On the other hand,The South African government, in partnership with international humanitarian organizations, has contributed 40 tons of non-food items for the displaced people of Abyei.

The items comprise mosquito's nets, tents, blankets and medicines.

Thousands of people in Abyei were displaced when the Sudan Peoples Liberation Army and the Sudan Armed Forces clashed in the area in May this year.
