In Khartoum, the SPLM urged for pardoning of the convicted members of the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), who were sentenced to death for involvement in the foiled Omdurman attacks last May.

While addressing a rally to commemorate the 3rd anniversary of Dr. Garang’s death, the SPLM Deputy Secretary General for northern Sudan, Yasir Arman, called for ceasefire in Darfur.

Mr. Arman added that the condemned JEM rebels should be released and should be considered as prisoners of war.

A leading member in the Popular Congress Party, Wisal Al-Mahdi, told Miraya FM that Dr. Garang is the only person where by the Sudanese population agreed with him.

The spokesperson of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM-United Faction), Essam Al-Haj, meanwhile said that Dr. Garang has special vision on solving the Darfur problems.

Al-Haj said that the absence of Dr. Garang delayed the finding of solution to the Darfur crisis.
