Monday, 28 July 2008
Three people died when unknown gunmen attacked a bus traveling to Juba Town between the Torit-Nimule - Juba road junction on Sunday afternoon. According to the Chief Police Officer at the central division in Malakia in Juba, Priagi Justin, the incident took place between the junction and Gumbo, seven miles on the eastern bank of the River Nile.

He said a team of police personnel has been sent to investigate the incident, and that the dead and the wounded are at the Juba Teaching Hospital. The hospital officials said victims were undergoing operations.

In another development, another bus traveling from Nimule to Juba Town, which arrived soon after the attack incident, crashed near the attacked bus leaving several passengers wounded, who were then hospitalised at Juba Teaching Hospital.

The eastern bank of the River Niles, just seven miles from Juba Town is renowned for attacks by armed men in spite of the presence of police and the government security forces in the locality.

Lives and property, and cattle have been lost and taken respectively.
