Russia and China has -on a rare occasion- used a veto to abort a resolution proposed by the United States to impose sanctions on Zimbabwe over the political crisis in the country.

 
Zimbabwean president Robert Mugabi has declared himself a winner of the runoff elections held last June without any opposition, a move which prompted international dismay.
