G8 summit in Japan concludes |

The Group of Eight industrial countries (G8) summit in Japan concluded today expressing deep concern on what it called the deteriorating security and humanitarian situation in Darfur.
The G8 summit urged all parties engaged in the Darfur conflict to commit to reengaging with the peace process.
The G8 countries said that they will continue to support UNAMID, encourage countries to provide assistance to the mission, and urge the Government of Sudan to assist in expediting its full deployment.
The summit also called on Sudan and Chad to comply with the existing peace agreements.
Earlier the G8 leaders pledged to provide 10 billion Dollars to support food aid and agricultural production in the poor countries to curb global rise in the food prices.
