US Envoy for Darfur unsatisfied with UNAMID deployment PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 03 July 2008

The United States Special Envoy for Darfur Richard Williamson expressed his  disappointment at the failure of the United Nations to fulfill its pledge of deploying 3600 additional hybrid troops (UNAMID) in Darfur last June.

Williamson indicated that the number of troops that were deployed this year amounted to about 650 soldiers only. The US Envoy explained that the United States is training and preparing the African peacekeeping troops for Darfur, pointing out that the deployment of these forces falls within the responsibility of the United Nations.
