The President of the Government of Southern Sudan Lt. Gen. Salva Kiir Mayardit; said yesterday in Rumbek, that he has written to all States' Governors and SPLA Commanders to start disarmament of civilians all the over the southern States. The President was attending a graduation ceremony of SPLA officers of the Infantry school in Malou, Rumbek.

Meanwhile, the Commander of the Sudan People's Liberation Army (SPLA) 5th  Division Maj. Gen. James Gatuel Gatluak has instructed local chiefs of Lakes State to begin voluntary disarmament of their communities for a period of ten days.

In an exclusive interview with Miraya Fm after the meeting with the chiefs, the Commander said that the army will start the disarmament process itself in case the civilians do not comply within the ten days.
