Rebels in eastern Chad on Saturday attacked a town where the European Union troops were protecting civilian refugees.
Aid workers said that Irish soldiers of the European Union came under fire during the fighting. Irish troops stationed at the town of Goz-Beida defended themselves with brief "warning fire" from their armored vehicles during a clash between Chadian army and a rebel column that attacked the town. The Chadian Foreign Minister, Ahmed Hessien, meanwhile said that the army is chasing the rebels out of the Goz-Beida town.
