Save the Childeren report "Politically motivated" ,south minister says PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 12 June 2008
The Minister of Gender, Social Welfare, and Religious Affairs, Mary Kiden, expressed doubts that the recent report by the British SAVE the Children Organization on child abuse by members of the United Nations may have been politically motivated.

Mrs. Kiden said that the incidents related in the report were old and have been investigated.

She said that her Ministry was active in combating child abuse and that so far there were no new cases of such kind.

The Minister called on the SAVE the Children Organization to communicate with the Ministry when uncovering new incidents rather than approaching the media.

The SAVE the Children Organization earlier issued a report accusing the UN peacekeepers in Southern Sudan and Ivory Coast of sexually abusing children in these areas.
