A leading southern Sudanese official earlier accused the Sudan Armed Forces of reinforcing its troops in the Abyei area.
Speaking to the Reuters News Agency, a member in the Southern Sudan Legislative Assembly, Deng Arop, said that 38 trucks full of soldiers arrived in Muglad north of Abyei within a week.
The Deputy Chief of Staff of the Sudan People’s Liberation Army (SPLA), Salva Matoj, said that northern forces arrived in the area in the last few days. Mr. Matoj said that SPLA forces withdrew from the area to avoid any confrontation with the government forces. Miraya FM did not get an immediate comment from the Sudan Armed Forces.
