More than 2500 people arrived in Aweil East following the recent clashes in Abyei. The internally displaced people are sheltering in open spaces and under trees in Malualkon and Mabil towns in Aweil East County of Northern Bahr el-Ghazal State. So far about 400 people have received assistance.

The displaced people have recounted grim stories of pregnant mothers delivering on the road, missing children and separation of families.

Meanwhile the Chairman of the Assiessment and Evaluation Commission Derek Plumbly will visit the Abyei area to assess the situation on ground.
