The UNAMID announced that it has strong suspicions that one of the armed Darfur movements is responsible for the hijacking of three of the mission’s trucks on the road between Niyala and Al-Diein in south Darfur.
The Spokesman of the United Nations-African Union Mission in Darfur (UNAMID), Noureddine Al-Mezni, told Miraya FM that one of the trucks belongs to the Chinese engineers unit.
He said they are not sure what kind of equipments were seized from the trucks. But he affirmed that the mission is collecting more information on the incident.
In a press statement yesterday, the Chairman of the Ceasefire Commission (CFC), General Martin Luther Agwai, expressed deep concern by the rising toll of civilian deaths and casualties as a result of the recent bombing of villages in Darfur.
He also described the reported bombings of villages, markets and populated areas in Um Sidir, Ein Bassar and Shegeg Karo are unacceptable acts against civilians, compounding the extent of displacement, insecurity and untold human suffering.
Meanwhile, the Darfur movements signatory to the Abuja agreement headed by the SLM-Minnawi’s faction announced their intention to suspend their participation in the Government of National Unity and the States’ Governments for one day in protest against what they considered reluctance in implementing the Abuja agreement signed 2 years ago.
The faction’s Spokesman, Saif Eddine Haroun, told Miraya FM that the movements will hand a protest letter to the parties of the agreement about the failures in implementing the articles of the DPA agreement.
