The United Nations has denied a report broadcasted by the British Broadcasting Corporation (BBC) saying that it had covered up illegal arms trading for ivory and gold by Indian and Pakistani peacekeepers in the Democratic Republic of Congo.
The Deputy Spokesperson of the UN Secretary General, Marie Okabe, said that the BBC report is based on two to three years old allegations which have been investigated by the Office of Internal Oversight Services.
Okabe also dded that the allegations that say the UN has confirmed covering up this case due to political sensitivities is false.
In its latest report aired on Monday, the BBC reported that UN sources close to teh investigations said they had been discouraged from pursuing teh case for political reasons.
