SPLM in South Kordofan retreats from not participating in Census PDF Print E-mail
Thursday, 24 April 2008
On the third day of the population census, official reports indicate that the census process is moving on without hurdles. The SPLM in South Kordofan State has announced that it’s retreating from its position of not participating in the census.

The decision came after a long negotiation process led by a leading member in the SPLM and the governor of the Blue Nile State Malik Agaar and a leading member in the National Congress Party and a State Minister in the Ministry of Humanitarian Affaires Ahmed Haroun in addition to some members of the national High Census Committee.

The Chairman of the SPLM in South Kordofan State and Deputy governor, Major General Daniel Kodi told Miraya FM that the meeting with the national delegation came out with some positive results for the South Kordofan State.
Earlier, a statement from the SPLM in the Southern Kordofan State attributed its stance of not taking part in the census due to insecurity in the State which topped  many other reasons.

In addition to that, the statement mentioned that the SPLM is not properly represented in the concerned institutes; the borders demarcation issue,  lack of English language  Census questionnaires, and the non-reactivation of the IDP voluntary return. In a related news development, an unknown group belonging to the Umm Surdubba area released the commissioner of  Talodi Municipality Awad Abdel Rahaman  Al Amin  a supporter of the SPLM  who was abducted  on Monday .

The group considered him a hostage not to be released until a detained person who belongs to the area is released by the SPLM as the group put it.
