The Zimbabwe opposition called residents to stay home to prevent any confrontation with security forces during the general strike it called for on Tuesday.
Tendai Biti the  Secretary General of the opposition Movement for Democratic Change said that the call for the residents not to go to work is to avoid confrontations and reduce risk to the fullest extent.
The call for the strike came after Zimbabwe’s high court's rejection of a petition for the immediate release of the elections results.

President Robert Mugabe’s regime has deployed police and army enforcements throughout the country on the eve of the general strike.

The police authorities also warned that those who breach the peace will be dealt with firmly.
