The Canadian Foreign Minister, Maxime Bernier, arrived for two days visit to Juba where he is going to meet senior Southern Sudan government officials.
Speaking to the press at the Juba International Airport, Mr. Bernier said that the Canadian government is interested to see progress in the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
Bernier said that Canada believes in the success of the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement would lead to a peaceful political solution to the Darfur crisis, which he described “as bad”.
Mr. Bernier said that Darfur needs strong support of the international community. He confirmed that the government of Canada has allocated two hundred and seventy five (275) million dollars to support humanitarian aid to the people of Sudan, and particularly of Darfur, as well as for security and diplomatic activities.
