The South Sudan Anti-Corruption Commission has started consultations with some Ministries in the government of southern Sudan to set up anti-corruption strategies for implementation.
The Commission started its consultations with the Ministries of Commerce, Trade and Supply, Industry and Mining, Education, Science & Technology, and Telecommunications & Postal Services.
The Chairperson of the Commission, Pauline Riak, said that the commission cannot achieve its goals unless all government institutions cooperate with it.
Mrs. Pauline stressed that there is a need for all stakeholders to get involved in the fight against corruption. She added that the Commission has a legal framework, an intensive public awareness program, and building of capacity across all the government institutions.
High levels of corruption revealed in Upper Nile
In related development, the Government of the Upper Nile State has decided to refer some senior state officials to the state’s legal council for investigations on corruption and financial fraud charges.
The anti-corruption committee in the State had earlier announced that it discovered high levels of corruption within the Upper Nile State Civil Service.
Speaking yesterday to the press in Malakal town, the Minister of Finance and Economic Planning, Stephen Diu, said that the officials involved would be sent to court for legal action.
Mr. Diu said that those facing embezzlement charges include the Secretary General of the State’s government, the Director General of the State Ministry of Finance, and the Director of the Taxation Chamber.
