The Secretary General of the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM), Pagan Amum, said in an interview with Sudan TV that the movement wouldn’t mind reviewing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.
Mr. Amum said that this includes reviewing the power-sharing arrangements in order to resolve the Darfur crisis, and give the region its share of power.
He said the representation of the region in the government will be determined by the number of its population which will be known through the coming census in April.
In its first reaction, a leading member in the National Congress Party, Omar Adam Rahma, told Miraya FM that his party would welcome SPLM's idea giving up a part of its share of power to settle the Darfur crisis.
Meanwhile, President Omer Al-Bashir called on the international community to take a clear stance towards the armed movements who rejected the Abuja agreement.
Speaking during the graduation ceremony of the 20th batch of the High Military Academy, President Al-Bashir asserted that the government is fully cooperating with the international community to resolve the Darfur crisis, but he pointed out that the international community should stop dealing in what he described as “double standards.”
