The US President George Bush has signed into law the Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007.
The act will toughen the American economic sanctions imposed on Sudan.
The bill aims at providing protection from lawsuits to the US and local divestment efforts in Sudan to sanction it over the Darfur crisis.
The Sudan Accountability and Divestment Act of 2007 targets the main sources of revenue of Khartoum and this comprises oil, power production, mining and military equipment.
During the singing of the bill, President Bush said that he shared the deep concern of the American Congress over the continued violence in Darfur which is being committed by the Sudanese government and the rebel group.
