President Omer Al-Bashir has assured that the Government of National Unity (GNU) is committed in implementing the Comprehensive Peace Agreement (CPA).
President Al-Bashir said that his government will work hard to solve all the outstanding issues between the two partners.
Addressing the extraordinary session of the Council of Ministers with the participation of the SPLM Ministers for the first time since October the 17th, Al-Bashir urged the newly appointed ministers to abide by their duties.
"The optimum role of the GNU is clear, and its common with the government of southern Sudan and the other States," President Al-Bashir said.
He added that the leadership and development is the responsibility of the country's leaders.
"Our goal is to implement the agreement in order to acheive the aspirations of the people of Sudan in terms of security and giving confidence back to the Sudanese citizens with their different parties and ethnics," Al-Bashir said.
SPLM reaction
The Minister of the Cabinet Affairs in the GNU, Pagan Amum, said that the SPLM Ministers will exert all efforts in implementing the CPA.
Mr. Amum welcomed the endorsment of the SPLM Ministers by the President Al-Bashir as he put without being modified.
"We are returning back to the GNU after resolution of the differences and are willing to work as a team in the GNU to build peace in Sudan, and acheive a sustainable development in our country," said Amum.
The appointment of the SPLM Advisors, Ministers, and State Ministers by President Omer Al-Bashir came in accordance with the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement’s recommendations.
The appointment of the Ministers has almost put an end to the differences between the National Congress Party and the SPLM regarding the implementation of the CPA.
The SPLM Ministers taking the oath of office came after long discussions, accusations, and intervention of the international community to bring the tgwo partners in the GNU together and implement the CPA.
After the National Congress Party accepted to reshuffle the SPLM Ministerial nominees, the SPLM decided to join the GNU claiming that 'all the outstanding issues had been resolved.
However, the Abyei issue still remains unresolved and the challenge is how are the two partners in the GNU going to committe themselves in implementing the recommendations of the six-men committe where by the Abyei issue is still in need of a real solution by the Presidency.
