The Beja Congress for Reform and Development and the SPLM have agreed in principle to merge.
The Chairman of the Beja Congress, Othman Musa Baunin, told Miraya FM in an exclusive statement that the agreement was reached after three weeks of talks between the two parties.
He said that a final wording of the agreement is expected to be reached during the few coming days.
He added that the agreement will be signed with initials during a ceremony in Juba to be followed by another in Khartoum to which Sudanese political figures and representatives of political parties and international and regional organizations will be invited.
Mr.Bawanin further explained to Miraya FM the main points of the agreement: "All offices and political secretariats will be merged, and common action will be conducted in all spheres, political, developmental, and reconstruction, in eastern Sudan between us and the SPLM under the name of the Begja Congress in the Sudan People's Liberation Movement. It has been agreed to engage together in facing the next phase in Sudan, the phase of elections and democratic transformation. We will take on this phase as one cohesive alliance in all areas of political activity for the two sides in the eastern states of east Sudan."
Also in reaction to the merge of the Beja Congress and the SPLM, the Secretary of External Relations in the National Congress Party, Dr. Kamal Obeid, said that this agreement doesn’t affect his party, and said :
“All political forces have the right to meet to familiarize with the different aspects of cooperation…this factor helps in maintaining the stability of the political life...this group was not a part of the [EPA], but the convergence of the political forces doesn’t mean their refusal of the signed agreements, and the political alliances are familiar in the pluralistic political life.”
