The Department of Vaccination and Immunization in the Ministry of Health in the Upper Nile State has ended the campaign for the eradication of polio disease in the State.
The campaign which was carried last month took place in all the State counties.
The campaign aimed at vaccinating more than 270,000 children.
The director of the vaccination department in the Ministry of Health, Upper Nile State, Dr. Peter Oganjok, told Miraya FM that the Campaign achieved success measured at 97%, despite difficulties in reaching areas which were affected by the floods early this year.
"For the last three years now no case has been reported in the Upper Nile State, although the surveillance is very active," said Dr. Oganjok.
He added, "so far we are able to report about eight cases of acute paralysis which is always investigated and the stool specimens are send to the lab for analysis, and all the results of the cases reported were found negative-no wild polo-virus circulating in Upper Nile State".
He said that this is an indication that the vaccination campaigns are very successful.
