The First Vice President of the Republic and President of the Government of Southern Sudan, Salva Kiir Mayardit, is expected to depart Khartoum today to the Ethiopian capital Addis Ababa.
Mr. Kiir will be accompanied by a high delegation from the government of southern Sudan.
Salva Kiir is expected to discuss with the Ethiopian leadership issues regarding the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement, bilateral relations between the governments of southern Sudan (GOSS) and Ethiopia, ain addition to the issue of GOSS being a mediator between Addis Ababa and Asmara on their border crisis.
The Minister of Presidential Affairs in the GOSS, Dr. Luka Biong, told Miraya FM that a Memorandum Of Understanding between the two countries will be signed during the visit.
"The visit of President Salva Kiir is historic," said Dr. Biong.
He added, "first, we would like to cement the relationships between Ethiopia and southern Sudan."
He said that the second aim behind the visit of President Salva Kiir to Ethiopia, is to cement the relationships on the technical part "specially on the human resources development, and on setting the system after the war," said Biong.
Dr. Biong added that Salva Kiir will also discuss joint projects that link Ethiopia and southern Sudan.
Politically he said, "Ethiopia is one of the countries that played an important role during the peace negotiations and is one of the key members of the IGAD countries".
Dr. Biong said as a Cchairman of the SPLM, Salva Kiir will be able to offer a mediation to overcome the conflict between Erirea and Ethiopia regarding the border issue.
