Various towns in Sudan celebrated on Monday the International Human Rights Day.
The celebrations in the Wau town of the Western Bahr el-Ghazal State, were attended by the head of the United Nations Mission in Sudan "Sector two", Professor Fred Baba, the governor of the State, Mark Nypoud, and other UN agencies.
Governor Nypoud called on the police force of Sudan to stop violating Human Rights in Darfur.
"Human rights are being abused all the over the world today, in places where there are wars and among those places is Darfur," said Governor Nypoud.
He said when ever there are wars, human rights are definitely being abused.
"We called upon government of national unity to quickly implement the hybrid declaration so that peace is restored in Darfur and human rights are brought back into Darfur," the governor said.
He urged the police not abuse human rights specially when arresting people.
Rumbek
In the Rumbek town of Lakes State, prison and police, and the peacekeeping forces, students, cultural groups, religious leaders, and government representatives celebrated the day with parades in the town.
The governor of the Lakes State, Lt. Gen. Daniel Awit Akot, said that the SPLM fought for human rights.
He said that the SPLM will continue appealing the communities which are concerned with human rights to work for the oppressed people.
Kagughli
The occasion was organized by the United Nations in collaboration with the Ministry of Social Welfare in Kordofan State.
The Minster of Social Welfare in the State, Dura Juma, said that human rights are the basis of humanity.
