The Force Commander of the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) revealed that there are planned activities that will ensure the withdrawal of the Sudan Armed Forces and the Sudan People’s Liberation Army troops by January 9th next year.

Speaking to Miraya FM Lt. General Jasbir Lidder said the Cease fire Political Commission (CPC) has passed 14 resolutions related to the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement. He also pointed out that the resolutions will be implemented as a package.  The Spokesman of the SPLA, Major General Kuol Diem Kuol, said that the Sudan Armed Forces will withdraw its troops to north of village Totach, while the SPLA will withdraw its troops to south of river Kiir. This came as a response to the Joint Defense Board decision that the final redeployment of Sudan Armed Forces (SAF) and Sudan Peoples Liberation Army (SPLA) has to be completed before January 9th 2008. He added in a press conference in Juba that a 12 member Committee is to be formed to supervise the operations of the JIU.
