570 death cases of Cholera reported in south Sudan
Mr. Ohuru said that twenty thousand people were infected with the acute watery diarrheain the year 2006 in southern Sudan with about five hundred and seventy death cases.
"In 2007 up to mid-September, there were ten thousand and five hundred cases with more than four hundred deaths," said the Minister.
He added that during the last two years Cholera has become endemic in southern Sudan.
"Therefore it is expected that Cholera will again emerge from now and evolve to another new outbreak," said Mr. Ohuru.
Mr. Ohuru also explained that large movements of people worsen the spread of communicable diseases.
He said many populated areas have no access to reliable supply of water.
The briefing aimed to alert the government about bodies such as the Cholera Prevention and Preparedness group.
