There is an expectation of infestation of the Desert Locust that could emerge to eastern Sudan due to dryness of other parts, says the Sudanese Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry.
"In Kassala State, there is a standby situation while all the locust swarms are immediately combated," the Head of the Department of Desert Locust Eradication in the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry, Rabi Abdel Halim, told Miraya FM.
However, Mr. Halim says that the situation of the Desert Locust is under control in some parts of northern Sudan.
Limited Eradication
"In Tokar, in the Red Sea State, there is a limited eradication on land as most of the work is concentrated in Haya and Durdaib," said Halim.
He added that the areas that were cleaned so far are approximately twenty-three thousand and six hundred hectares.
"The affected areas were sixty thousand and five hundred thirty one hectares since the launching of the eradication campaign last September," he affirmed.
