2007-11-10t151844z_01_afr013_rtridsp_2_sudan-health_articleimage.jpgThe Council of Ministers has ordered all the States where the incidence of the Rift Valley Fever has been reported to set up veterinary animal quarantines and to restrict cattle movements to and from the affected areas.

This came in the Council of Ministries' weekly meeting in Khartoum.

Meanwhile, health authorities in Al Gezira State have quarantined one hundred and forty people infected with the disease in Medani Hospital.

Miraya FM Nada Farouq reported that prices of beef and milk products have decreased sharply in Sinnar State as citizens avoided buying these products.

The Rift Valley Fever has been reported in Al Gezira, White Nile and Sinnar States.

Miraya FM Owies Al-Fakki reported that the Rift Valley Fever is one of the most dangerous" deadly"  viral diseases affecting human beings and animals.

Transmission, and prevention

The virus affects cattle causing its death and triggers abortion among pregnant animal females.

The disease can be transmitted  by animals or mosquitoes in addition to other insects  to the human being , also by drinking non-pasteurized milk, and inhaling biological secretions of infected animals.

As the disease has no medication up to the moment,  it still could be prevented through animal vaccination , exerting caution among by those dealing with animals,  in addition to combating the mosquitoes.
