mbeki__al-bashir.jpgPresident Omar Al Bashir has called on South Africa to increase the number of its troops currently serving in the African Union Mission in Darfur.

This came during his meeting with his South African counterpart Thabo Mbeki at the State banquet in Cape Town on Tuesday.

The Press Secretary of President Al-Bashir, Mahjoub Fadil Badri, said that Al-Bahsir discussed with President Mbeki joint economic interests and the progress of the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement.

Meanwhile, the First Vice President of the Republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit, who is on visit to the United States, said  that he is trying to unify the Darfur rebels through the Juba meeting.

Kiir said this after meeting the UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon at the United Nations Headquarters in New York on Tuesday.

Mr. Kiir stressed that the rebels should agree on the need for unity and a common agenda before determining issues and questions of leadership.
