JEM warns oil companies operating in Kordofan to evacuate or risk being target
Tuesday, 30 October 2007
The Justice and Equality Movement (JEM) has warned the Oil Companies operating in Western Sudan to evacuate or risk legitimate targets.
A leading member in the JEM, Moahammed Bahr Ali Hamdain told the Reuters News Agency that five workers have been detained following the attacks on Dafra Oil field in South Kordofan on Tuesday.
The workers include Ahmed Mohammed from Iraq, Joseph William Samuel from Egypt, and the other three are Sudanese.
The secretary for foreign relations in the JEM, Dr. Haroun Abdul Hamid, told Miraya FM that the oil revenues have been used to wage war in Darfur.
"The United Kingdom, the United States, and the European countries have to recalled the oil companies dealing with the Sudanese government to stop their activities," said Dr. Hamid.
He added, "because the oil revenues are exploited for bombarding innocent people instead of being used for their befenits".
The Dafra Oil field is in South Kordofan State near Darfur and attacks have extended to the region last year.
