Plans are going on to raise the standard of Juba Airport, and a meeting to that effect has taken place between the Ministry of Transport and Roads, and the Directorate of Air transport and the United Nation Mission in Sudan (UNMIS).
According to the Director of Juba International Airport, Brigadier Kur Kuol Ajieu, the airport needs to be fenced so as to bar animals and people straying on the run-way.
Meanwhile, the Undersecretary in the Ministry of Transport and Roads, Dr. Daniel Wani said there is a plan to improve the Airport, including building a domestic terminal. He said that a contractor is hired to bring all the modern equipment needed for the terminal building which is expected to finish by June next year.
Meanwhile, source at the airport said the unfenced Airport poses a great danger to flights because animals ranging from goats, cows and people stray on the run-way during day time, while rabbits, wild cats, dogs, snakes, frogs, goats and cows roam the run-way in the night for food or accommodation.
Another source said the United Nations Mission in Sudan has been helping by clearing the run-way for night flights by driving along the run-way.
