darfur_militas.jpgThe Darfur Factions meeting in Juba have reiterated their reservations on the date of the peace talks scheduled to take place in Sirte town of Libya on the 27th of this month.

Ahmed Abdul Shafi of the Sudan Liberation Movement told Miraya FM that the date for the peace talks is not practical.

"I can not confirm whether we will participate in the Tripoli meeting or not for many reasons," Mr. Shafi told Miraya FM.

He said that the first reason is that they are concern with their arrangement, "the schedule of the meeting is not pratical," he said.

He accused the UN Secretary General Ban Ki Moon of not consulting the Darfur Factions regarding the peace talks.

He said that Ban Ki Moon declared the peace talks between the Darfur rebels and the Sudanese government with the Khartoum government and the African Union when he visited Khartoum.

"And this is one of the problems we are suffering from," he said, adding, "the UN and the AU take decisions on issues which we are supposed to be part of, specially regarding the time and date of the negotiations".

He urged the UN to think over the timing of the expected peace talks scheduled to take place later this month, "the UN should re-think over these measures," he concluded.

The only woman leader taking part in the Darfur Factions meeting in Juba, Rawdha Mohammed Ahmed, said that women should be allowed to participate in the coming peace talks.

"The women who truly know the problems of Darfur are not brought to negotiations, rather they are excluded," Ms. Rawdha told Miraya FM.

She added, "there should be compromise instead of sending them away".

"I therefore call upon the UN, the AU, and the International Community to allow for the participation of women so that their voices are heard and they should become part of the peace process," she concluded.

The Libyan secretary for African Affairs, Dr. Ali el-Tiraiki, has meanwhile confirmed that the preparations for the Darfur peace talks are going on well.

Dr. El-Tiraiki ruled out any postponement.

Meanwhile, the senior assistant to the President of the Republic, Minni Arco Minnawi, has called for a meeting of the Darfur Interim Authority to assess the preparations for the talks in the Sirt town of Libya.
