Nile
State has ordered a 10-day closure of all schools in the State due to high rate of eye infection.
The order came after the hospital in Malakal received more cases of eye infection from students.
Last week there were about 200 cases reported at the hospital and the number is said to be increasing.
Speaking to Miraya FM the Minister of Education in the State, Dr. Mojkwan Kak, said that they received reports that many students have been infected by the eye disease.
"And then we said if the situation is like this, it means that it is going to be risky for them (students) because we don’t know up to now how the disease is spreading – that’s why we have taken a decision to suspend classes for a while after consulting the higher authorities in the State," said Kak.
He added, "the suspension of classes is a temporary measure to control the spread of the disease and we will wait for the arrangements that the health authorities will put in place to eradicate the disease.
Last month the Health Ministry in the State announced the outbreak of a bacterial eye infection known as "Conjectivitis".
