A leading member in the National Congress Party (NCP) and a member in the government’s delegation in the Naivasha peace talks, Saeed Al-Khatib, has criticized the decision taken by the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) to suspend its participation in the government of national unity.
This came in an explanatory meeting with the diplomatic missions held at the ministry of foreign affairs in
Khartoum on Saturday.
Mr. Khatib said that the SPLM decision to suspend its participation in the government of national unity does not include the First Vice President of the republic, Salva Kiir Mayardit.
He said that the SPLM decision came after the movement proposed of reshuffling the cabinet.
"The CPA does not say anything about the NCP or the president doing for SPLM a job that SPLM has to do," said Mr. Al-Khatib.
He added that "this is about the extend of what the president has to do regarding that certain minister.
Khatib sai dthat he seeing nothing wrong with the way a minister is performing in the cabine.
"The other side of it is up to the party, if any party represented in the government of national unity is not happy with the performance of a certain representative of that party in the government of national unity then they have to deal with him or her according to their party’s charter," said Khatib.
He added, "they can bring him or her and talk to him, they can tell him how to perform his or her duties and can ask him to resign".
Khatib said that the president of the republic under any circumstances has no obligation to fire a representative of any party "this is a very simple matter, they could go about doing this in a very straight forward manner," he asserted.
However, the NCP accused the SPLM of 50 violations of the CPA.
Meanwhile, President Omer Al-Bashir said that he is committed to the implementation of the CPA despite the differences with the SPLM.
Addressing the nation on the occasion of the Eid Al-Fitir, President Bashir said he is also committed to implementing all peace agreements including the
Abuja and the
Eastern Sudan agreements.
