The UN Mission in Sudan (UNMIS) has said that it is closely monitoring the political crisis between the Sudan People's Liberation Movement (SPLM) and the National Congress Party (NCP) and is awaiting the outcome of the high level discussions between the two partners in the Government of National Unity (GNU).
UNMIS said that the assistant of the UN special envoy to Sudan, Taye Zerihoun, will visit Juba on Saturday to hold discussions on the matter with the government of south Sudan senior leadership.
speaking to Miraya FM political analyst and one of the observers in the Naivasha agreement, Dr. Mohammed Zain, said that the withdrawal of the SPLM from the GNU will lead to negative impacts on the Comprehensive Peace agreement (CPA).
"Because the agreement stated that no party has the right to determine a position regarding the agreement without consultations," said Dr. Zain.
He said that the move taken by the SPLM is an expression of internal issues within the movement rather than its relations with the NCP.
However, the Popular Congress Party held the National Congress Party responsible for the deterioration of the situation regarding the implementation of the CPA.
A leading member in the Party, Kamal Omer Abdel Salaam, said tha there is a posibility of going back to sqaure one which as he put it is "war" if the constituitonal vacuum is not filled up.
"This will form a constitutional vacuum and such a step will weaken the CPA," said Mr. Salaam.
He warned that "if the NCP did not act rationaly the situation might develop into war".
Speaking to Miraya FM the chairman of the Southern Sudan Democratic Party (SSDF), Professor David De Chan condemned the withdrawal of the SPLM from the GNU.
Professor De Chan said that the move taken by the SPLM will loose trust between the two partners in the GNU.
"It is going to damage the trust and it is going to damage the very essence of the CPA and I think it would be a very unfortunate decision that Salva Kiir has undertaken," Professor De Chan said.
The Umma Party said that such a step taken by the SPLM to suspend its participation in the GNU was an expectation because the NCP was reluctant in implementing the CPA.
Speaking exclusively to Miraya FM a leading member in the Umma Party, Dr. Meriam Al-Sadiq, said that the duality of the agreement as she put it will lead the country to undetermined consequences.
"At the political level this announcement reflects the withdrawal of confidence by the SPLM from its partner the National Congress Party," Dr. Meriam Sadiq told Miraya FM.
She added that "in the legal level it leads to constitutional collapse, it violates the composition of the government transitional constition".
