Three officials from the
Darfur rebel movements arrived in
Juba today in a bid to forge a common position before the Darfur-Sudan government peace talks in
Sirte, Libya , at the end of this month.
According to the chairman of the South Sudan Darfur Taskforce, Canon Clement Janda, a majority of members from the rebel factions are expected to arrive by Saturday. However, Canon Janda did not give details, but he said there is hope to bring the
Darfur rebel factions that did not sign the
Abuja agreement together.
“There is only one key issue and that is to bring all the
Darfur movements which have not signed the Abuja Agreement to come together and develop a common negotiating position,” he said.
He added that such a common position would ensure that these groups “will be effective in their negotiation.”
