In a special interview with Miraya FM the United Nations Envoy to Darfur Jan Eliasson has said that there is no way to postpone the talks between the government and the
Darfur holdout movements.
Postponement will lead to further deterioration,Eliasson
"My view is that we should stay the course and go for the talks in
Libya starting on the 27th of October. I do not think that the situation will anyway improve by waiting. On the contrary we will run the risk of deterioration".
We should see the talks as the beginning of an important process where we will work in a very focused and concentrating way.
We should quickly agree at the very beginning of the talks on a credible secession of hostilities. That is so urgent that I would decline the ideas of postponement and hope that we will be able to start the talks on the 27th".
Answering Miraya FM on the chances of success of the negotiations in a time of disagreement between the movements about selecting their representatives in the coming talks or refusal to participate completely, Eliasson said the mediators will try other ways to find representatives of the Darfurians in
Tripoli talks.
JEM confirms participation in Tripoli talks
On the other hand , Haroun Abdelhamid the Foreign Relations Officer of the Justice and Equality Movement has confirmed the participation of his movement in the upcoming talks without any preconditions.
The Justice and Equality Movement had threatened before that it will boycott the
Tripoli negotiations if the mediators did not determine who will be invited to participate in the talks.
The Chairman of the Justice and Equality Movement Khalil Ibrahim has said that the mediation of the UN and AU to perpetrate for the coming talks is going slowly and is not properly scheduled.
