The Secretary General of the United Nations, Ban Ki -moon revealed that President Omer Al-Bashir has agreed to release the former Coordinator of the Humanitarian Affairs of the Sudan Liberation Movement (SLM), Suleiman Jamous.
Ban said that Jamous will be released and will be transferred abroad for treatment.
Speaking to Miraya FM the Acting Chief of the Public Information Office of the United Nations Mission in Sudan (UNMIS), Leon Willems, said that Ban Ki-moon has welcomed the decision of President Al-Bashir to free Jamous.
Ban further said that this will create a conducive environment for the negotiations between the Sudanese government and the Darfur factions to find a peaceful solution to end the crisis in the region.
Meanwhile, Suleiman Jamous confirmed to Miraya FM in an exclusive interview that he will leave the hospital after the UN was informed with Al-Bashir’s decision.
"Personally, I think after waiting four months in Kadugli, the decision was a bit late," Jamous told Miraya FM. He added, "I thank all those who made efforts to send me abroad for medical examination". However, Jamous said "I have pledged to the Sudanese government not to enter Darfur until the peace talks begin".
