Sudan commemorates the second anniversary of Dr. John Garang De-Mabior |

Sudan commemorated the second death anniversary of Dr. John Garang De-Mabior, the first president of the government of south Sudan. In Juba, the town was in an official holiday as business came to a stand still. Miraya FM Susan Dokolo reported that school children and traditional dancers could not wait for the official hours set to celebrate the day and they began singing and dancing as early as 9.00am in the morning.
Various traditional dancers dressed in attractive attire were already at the Dr. John Garang memorial grounds in the early hours of the day, well before the afternoon hours set to commemorate the late Dr John Garang de Mabior. Government ministries, institutions and non governmental organization closed business. The usually busy Customs, Konyokonyo markets and Malakia shopping areas in Juba remained closed, apart from a few places that sold food. Many people Miraya FM talked to about the second anniversary for the commemoration of Dr. John Garang’s death has this to say:“Today’s commemoration of our late Dr. John Garang De-Mabior has actually made the CPA life succeeded". The person had this to say, “John Garang stated that look after your family, and make sure that the orphans are being looked after". And the Third person had this to say, “Our leaders are telling us that nobody should fear anything, the death of our commerade is the way forward". On the other hand, the vice president of the government of south Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar, called on the people of Sudan to work for the implementation of the Comprehensive Peace Agreement which Dr. John Garang had called for. Addressing the gathering Dr. Machar said that peace and unity are the most important ideas of Dr. John Garang as such it should be implemented. "In this day we should have to remember our hero Dr. John Garang De-Mabior and what he had dedicated to the whole of Sudan and to the SPLM and the south Sudan in particular," said the vice president of the government of south Sudan, Dr. Riek Machar while addressing the mourners in Juba. He said, "because the thoughts and the vision of Dr. John Garang have achieved peace in the Sudan, as such we are sending a message to the whole of Sudan that this day is the day of unity".
